Trip Totals

ok, we’re back. Actually, we got back a week ago Sunday, which means I have just finished unpacking. I drove back from San Jose with my mom (Chris flew home early to go back to work) and I must say the road to LA is much, much prettier (until the last few miles…hah!) than I-80, which we took home from San Jose. I’ve decided we as a nation could do without Wyoming…just cut it right out of the middle. We don’t need it, I promise. Anyhow, here are a few total numbers from Falin Vacation, 2008:

Total number of people we visited (excluding former co-workers): 40. I think.

Total number of house-changes: 4

Total number of windshields replaced: 1

Total number of mouse-ears purchased: 3

Total number of V-Smile handheld video game systems replaced: 1…after a small voice in the back of the car said, somewhere around San Luis Obispo, “Dad? Should my V-Smile have smoke coming out of the back?”

Total cost of casino-buffet dinner eaten in Wendover, NV on the way home: $40 for 2 adults and 2 kids. Total cost to casino for allowing 2 small children to eat as much shrimp as they liked: approx $150

Total Starbucks budget: approx $20 — much, much lower than expected due to discovery that parents are on South Beach Diet. Stupid South Beach Diet.

Total cost per gallon of cheapest gas paid on trip: $4.09, near Reno, NV

Total cost of gas for trip from CO-LA, LA-San Jose, San Jose-CO and various day trips in-between: no idea. Really, it’s too depressing.

Total # of children who left CO with me: 3

Total # of children who returned alive and unharmed to CO with me: 3 (yeay for me!)

Total # of instances in which I feared fewer than 3 children might return alive and unharmed to CO with me: per day? because otherwise I can’t count that high

Phew. I’m going to get myself a drink.

Where are we putting the kids?

Things we’ve picked up along our road trip (in order):

-2 giant shopping bags of knitting yarn

-a baby Exersaucer

-3 pairs of Mickey Mouse ears

-an adult-sized, custom-made road bike

-a child’s Nebulizer and Albuterol medicine for asthmatics

Chris’ grandpa wanted to send us home with his piano but unfortunately we had to draw the line somewhere.
